The Church of St. James the Greater in Horní Libchava welcomed its crystal treasure
The restoration of the chandelier in the Church of St. James the Greater in Horní Libchava was carried out with the support of the Preciosa Foundation, and the chandelier, which had been stored in the attic of the local rectory, was completely repaired and electrified free of charge. It was ceremoniously lit on September 27, 2025, as part of the Libchavy Music Autumn festival.
And you can see it during the Crystal Valley Weekend. The municipality of Horní Libchava and the St. James Association have prepared guided tours for you on Saturday, October 18, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The tour of the church will include a tour of the chandelier, a video projection of the repair and installation of the chandelier in the church.
The Church of St. James the Greater has been leased to the St. James the Greater Association for a period of 40 years. In the spring of 2025, representatives of the municipality transferred part of the original 200-year-old chandelier from the local parish to the association. The Preciosa Foundation financed its restoration, and Preciosa Lighting carried out the repair itself. The chandelier is 160 cm high, 80 cm in diameter, and weighs approximately 65 kg.
60% of the fittings and 40% of the glass parts have been preserved. The chandelier has its original wooden centerpiece, into which 8 glass arms are set – 4 original and 4 newly manufactured at the glassworks according to the original.
The light fixture was newly electrified. On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the chandelier was ceremoniously lit as part of the Libchavy Music Autumn festival.
The next event will be Crystal Valley Weekend, where you can view the refurbished chandelier on Saturday, 18 October. The church tours will also include a video projection of the repair and installation of the chandelier in the church.
