XV. Stanislav Libenský Award 2024 - Tribute to Oldřichu Palatovi
The Stanislav Libensky Prize was awarded at the Clam-Gallas Palace on Monday 2 December 2024. The competition, which is also known as the "Oscar for Young Glassmakers," celebrated its 15th anniversary by honouring exceptional glass artists from around the world. The expert jury selected from 48 finalists from 19 countries. The top prize went to Wai Tung Jocelyn Chan for her poetic and quiet expression of glass as an artistic medium. All the winners, along with the finalists, are featured in an accompanying exhibition, which is open until 4 January 2025 in the historic Clam-Gallas Palace.
A tribute to the legacy and innovation in the glass arts
For the first time, this year's edition also awarded the Stanislav Libenský Award for Lifetime Achievement to renowned theorist and curator Oldřich Palata. The award was presented by the former First Lady Livia Klausová, in recognition of Palata's fundamental contributions to glass art and its theory.
The competition continues to support emerging talent, with the winner receiving a scholarship to the prestigious Pilchuck Glass Summer School in the USA. The competition is named after glass art pioneer Stanislav Libensky and celebrates his legacy along with that of Jaroslava Brychtová, whose innovations in fused glass have significantly influenced the modern world of glass art.
