VITRUM - GLASSWORKS JANOV NAD NISOU
The glassworks in Janov nad Nisou, founded in 1912 by Johann Schorm, represents a unique combination of technical skill and artistic glassmaking. This historic glassworks, listed as a cultural monument, is now engaged in a wide range of production, from classic hand-shaped glass to specific pressed, laboratory, and decorative products.
The century-old history of the building is inscribed in every detail of the structure, which has undergone a fascinating transformation of its product range over the decades – from traditional glass bracelets, known as bengles, to modern technical glass. The vision of the current operation is to preserve the continuity of the craft in authentic spaces that serve as a living legacy of the industrial heritage of the entire region.
Upon entering the monumental glassworks hall, visitors are immediately struck by the captivating atmosphere of old times, enhanced by the sight of hundreds of historical molds and the heat of two glass furnaces. Right next to the pans, guests can watch the fascinating process of hand-blowing glass and observe master glassmakers as they create delicate and precise shapes from molten glass under their hands.
