Herbarium Radiant – the story of an extraordinary glass installation
We invite you to a guided tour of the Herbarium Radiant glass installation in the center of Liberec.
October 15 | 5:30 p.m. | Kafe Kytka, Kostelní ulice 10/5, Liberec
You will meet JAN FORMÁNEK, Lasvit's lighting specialist, who, together with experienced glass technologist JAROSLAV ŠVÁCHA, will reveal many surprising facts. Among other things, you will learn how it is possible that some components of Herbarium seemingly change colours on their own.
He will also answer the question: "What do electric scooters have in common with the delicate beauty of the glass components of the Herbarium Radiant installation?
The Herbarium installation, gilded glass combined with plants, adorns the UN headquarters in New York. Lasvit donated it there together with the Czech Republic. In Liberec, you can admire Herbarium Radiant until the end of October, brought to the ground floor of the café by the Crystal Valley Week 2025 summer glass festival.
A miniature version of Herbarium, with a diameter of about eight centimetres, is available on site for a contribution of 250 CZK to the Lasvit Foundation. 100 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of small decorative glass objects are used to help people in need, especially single mothers who care for children with disabilities.
Herbarium Radiant was designed by Marie Čulenová, Lasvit's chief designer, in collaboration with Jan Formánek, head of the lighting department. This project introduces a new type of glass made by integrating recycled materials, such as rare lanthanide oxides extracted from recycled electromagnets. These oxides enable the modulation of light colours. The result is an ever-evolving colour spectacle that transforms Herbarium Radiant into a unique visual experience that combines aesthetics with sustainability.
