"Handmade glass" awarded
On the basis of the proposal of the Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou from February last year, the Ministry of Culture decided in December 2021 to register "Handmade Glass" in the List of Intangible Assets of Traditional Folk Culture of the Czech Republic. This registration is a fundamental condition for the possibility of submitting a proposal for inclusion in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The preparation of the documentation for the joint nomination for all 6 countries (France, which is the main coordinator, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Finland and the Czech Republic) is being finalised these days. In December, a film crew from France visited the Czech Republic, accompanied by museum staff, to film a part of the documentary focusing on the unique technique of hand-pulling jewellery bars at Preciosa Ornele in Desná and the technique of engraving and cutting glass at Ladislav Ševčík Bohemia Crystal in Železný Brod. "The application will be submitted in March and the evaluation procedure will take a whole year. Let's hope it will be successful!", said Milada Valečková, director of the Jablonec Museum.
