Human imagination, creativity, skill and courage are the qualities that gave rise to the Seven Wonders of the World in ancient times. The first glass ornaments were also created, and the Celts began to produce them in the territory of the Czech Republic. They were thus at the beginning of the eighth wonder of the world, which today is a unique concentration of glassmakers and jewellers in the north of Bohemia, in the Crystal Valley. Glassworks, studios, schools and skilled people have all been in the Liberec region for hundreds of years.
The exhibition presents the Crystal Valley as the ever-living, vibrant glass heart of the Czech Republic. In addition to handmade glass production, which was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2023, automatic production and technological innovations, without which contemporary glassmaking is unimaginable, also play an irreplaceable role.

Crystal Valley will present the exhibition ‘The Eighth Wonder of the World’ as part of the international forum ‘Creative Glass Dialogues 2026’, which will take place on 15 October at the Czech House in Belgrade.
Czech and Serbian glass in dialogue: Belgrade commemorates 180 years of Serbian glassmaking and the Czech influence on its development
What role did Czech glassmakers, experts and entrepreneurs play in the emergence and development of Serbian glassmaking? And what opportunities does cooperation between the Czech and Serbian glassmaking sectors offer today? These questions will be addressed at the international forum Creative Glass Dialogues 2026 at the Czech House in Belgrade.
A key part of the programme for the international forum Creative Glass Dialogues 2026 will be a presentation on the Crystal Valley, which will showcase the Czech model of integrating glassmaking tradition, contemporary design, cultural heritage, tourism and regional development.
The presentation will be followed by the grand opening of the exhibition ‘Crystal Valley – The Eighth Wonder of the World’. This will introduce visitors to the story of Czech glass and its contemporary form through the work of Czech glassmakers, designers and manufacturers.
The exhibition ‘The Eighth Wonder of the World’ at the Czech Centre in Belgrade will be open to visitors from 16 October to 13 December 2026.
