GLASS JAM 2026: When Glass Becomes a Common Language
Early July 2026 brought a breath of fresh energy, experimentation, and the joy of creation to Novoborsko. The new GLASS JAM project opened a dialogue between contemporary art and the region’s deeply rooted glassmaking tradition. The result is not only a unique gathering of artists but also an inspiring exhibition that invites visitors to come this summer.
GLASS JAM 2026, the first edition of this international symposium, took place from July 3 to 10 in the heart of Novoborsko—a region synonymous with high-quality Czech glass.
The project was conceived by organizers Wanda Solík Valihrachová and Ľudmila Žilková, who, together with curator Doc. Mgr. art. Palo Mach, created a platform open to dialogue. Dialogue is key here—artists, designers, jewelers, photographers, and fashion designers come together to explore new ways of working with glass.
The week-long symposium took place in collaboration with TGK Skalice near Česká Lípa, which provided the technological infrastructure. It was here that original works were created using fusing technology—a technique that allows glass to take on new forms and structures. Each participant imbued their work with their own perspective, experience, and experimentation.
The atmosphere was not only creative but also collaborative. The program was complemented by specialized workshops—such as a session with engraver Jára Šára—as well as lectures by glass artist Ricardo Hoineff and the curator himself. GLASS JAM was thus not just about the result, but above all about the process, sharing, and inspiration.
The exhibition presents the work of more than twenty artists from the Czech Republic and Slovakia—ranging from established names to the up-and-coming generation. The exhibition runs through August 31, 2026
GLASS JAM 2026 demonstrates that glass today is not merely a traditional material associated with craftsmanship, but a fully-fledged medium of contemporary art. It is particularly fascinating to see how diverse fields—from fashion to photography—are able to find common ground in glass and transform it into a vehicle for personal stories.
