Exhibition opening UNEXPECTED AMBER
Program
On the occasion of its 140th anniversary, the Museum of the Bohemian Paradise reaffirms its status as a European center for jewelry art and presents to the Czech public a unique collection of contemporary amber jewelry, assembled for the exhibition “Unexpected Amber: Strong Feelings,” which took place from September 26, 2025, to April 19, 2026, at the Amber Art Museum in the Lithuanian seaside resort of Palanga. The collection features approximately 90 pieces of jewelry by twenty renowned artists from nine countries who use amber in unconventional ways as an attractive yet traditional material, evoking ancient European and Lithuanian myths and legends. The exhibition brings together artists who have long used amber in their works with jewelry designers who have not previously worked with this material. The collection also includes entirely new pieces that are being presented here for the first time. The exhibition concept was developed by Heidemarie Herb, a German jewelry designer living in Italy, who collaborated with Jurgita Ludavičienė, the chief curator of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, on this second project of its kind.
The exhibition will open on Thursday, May 21, in the presence of both curators, and will occupy the museum’s treasury halls until the start of an international symposium on jewelry, which will take place in the fall.
The exhibition will run until September 27, 2026.
